Another Avery

I was blog hopping today and read about a little girl, Avery. If you have 18 minutes to watch this VIDEO (I promise it's worth it!), you will be blessed and encouraged by this story of courage & faith. Despite this family's challenges, their joy & hope in the Lord shines so brightly through.

An introduction to her story...
Avery is unable to have anything to eat or drink by mouth. Any time that Avery has even a small amount of food in her stomach she is unable to maintain her heart rate. Her heart rate and blood oxygen levels drop so low that it is considered a life-threatening event. When food is not in the stomach, she doesn't have this issue. After many months of trying to figure out how to solve this problem, Avery was finally given a J-tube. This tube goes into her intestines, bypassing her stomach and feeds her a very elemental, broken down formula. She is hooked up to her feeding pump continuously and is still on a heart rate monitor, as well. Avery has also struggled greatly with weight gain and has been diagnosed with failure to thrive.

Hi Natalie,
I wanted to let you know that I love the Akeman family. I actually work with her dad, Paul, and he and Angie are some of the most amazing people!! I have watched Avery grow up from a young toddler to now coming to our office to go trick-or-treating and for birthday surprises-Love, Kyra
