Avery's belated 1-year post!

Here it is.....the "All about Avery as a 1-year old" post. A little delayed due to Ike, belated doc appt, you know - life. Here are Avery's official 1-year stats (doc visit was actually at 12 3/4 months):

Height - 31" (90%)
Weight - 22lbs, 7oz (50-75%)
Head - 18" (didn't catch the % on this one)
Teeth - 10 (that we know of)

Avery is doing:
Smiling - From day 1, she's been a pretty happy baby
Waving - She's also pretty social, especially now with other babies & animals
Clapping - for herself mostly:)
Kissing - so sweet
Walking - still w/ bobbles; JUST started last week...almost 13 months
Eating - Great eater! Eats almost everything - & a lot of it:) Favorites are - yogurt & mashed banana, cheerios, cheese, grapes, deli meat, grilled cheese. She tried a spoon for the first time this week...she's got some work ahead of her on this one.

Avery is playing:

Avery loves playing with her friends. I don't think we could have too many play dates.
Favorite toys currently include - Box-house (hand-made by daddy), push-&-go car, ball popper, & her new baby doll. She also loves talking to herself in the mirror.

Avery is sleeping:

Praise God, Avery has always been a good sleeper!
She sometimes still takes a quick morning nap, always takes a good 1-3 hours afternoon nap, and most always sleeps 11-12 hours at night.
Night-time routine is usually dinner around 5:30p, bath @ 6:30p, play/bottle/book, then bed between 7:30-8p.m.
Avery's favorite is when her daddy rocks her to sleep (mom has never been able to do this), then down she goes with "George" the puppy, a blanket & her pacifier.

Avery is reading:
From the beginning, we have tried to be diligent about reading to her. But just recently she's become really excited about reading. When we pull out her favorite books, she laughs and is giddy with excitement. Grandma (the librarian) is so proud!
Favorite books include - animal book (this was her 1st favorite when she was still an infant...loved listening to mom & dad make the animal sounds), 10 little ladybugs, Touch & Feel bug book, & any of the Karen Katz "Where is...?" books.

Avery is talking:
Most is still in her own language, but just last week she started really babbling as if she were carrying on a conversation. It's so funny...and cute. Wonder what she's saying??
Recognizable words include - momma (so far only when she's upset or hungry), daddy, hi, uh-oh, bye-bye, gu-gu (go-go, when she's walking), dank-u (thank you), baby (her new baby doll), uh-uh (ruff-ruff), geo-gie (georgie, her sleeping buddy), mmm (cow moo, though she hasn't done this one in a while), was' tha? (points to everything & asks "what's that?)...that's all I can think of for now.
Where has this year gone!?! Avery has blessed us beyond measure since the very moment she was born. Though we have no previous baby experience to closely compare her to, it seems that she is most often "so easy". I've many times thought, "God only gives us what we can handle.....hmm....what does that say about me?" I suppose I also shouldn't think/speak too soon. I realize this is only the beginning.

But what a joy the beginning has been!

When you put evereything that Avery has been doing in words, I realize just how much she has grown and has accomplished in her first year! What a tremendously wonderful year it has been. I can't wait to see what she is doing at age two, three,...... She's such a sweetheart that won my heart from day 1! Love the reading picture - it's music to my librarian's ears. Love you all!

Great to see yall this Thanksgiving and it's fund to see the chronicle of what yall have been up to of late. Avery has become so much more responsive.
Sure was fun at the Thanksgiving dinner watching Avery wonder why her great uncle was eating behind her. Watch out, you'll turn around and she'll be all grown up!
