Extended Thanksgiving!

Avery got a good report at her dermatologist appointment this afternoon at Texas Children's. We went to confirm that her birthmark is a hemangioma, an abnormal build up of blood vessels in the skin. These types of birthmarks will typically fade and nearly go away on their own between the ages of 4 & 9. Our pediatrician had recommended that we have it checked by a specialist (dermatologist) to rule out anything more than a cosmetic mark; he was concerned that it may be associated with brain development. Our doctor today was very informed & experienced in hemangiomas and made Kurt & me feel very at ease and comfortable that Avery's mark is nothing more than cosmetic. Though it will get bigger before it begins to go away, it will likely not effect Avery's health in any way.
Praise the Lord! We have been praying for patience as we anticipated today's visit, but as always we received much more. I wrote a friend these words today..."The Lord is definitely teaching me patience & a new look at "perfection" through all of this. It's so neat to know that God made Avery perfect in His image....and something that I may have 2 years ago thought would be such a "terrible" thing is so so minor compared to the blessing of a happy, healthy little girl. I have been praising Him the past weeks for all that He's teaching me (already!) through parenthood."
As it seems there is a foundation for every "cause":), there is a Vascular Birthmark Foundation (VBF), under which hemangiomas are categorized. For more info, visit their website: http://www.birthmark.org/

Avery being a perfect little angel at the doc today.

Hangin' out w/ big momma tonight.

So thankful to hear that Avery got a clean bill of health today!

Last summer, when we finally got all three babies home, I went to take their announcement picture (the one of them on their tummies with the bows). I had every intention of photoshopping Logan's hemangiomas and all three heart surgery scars out of the shot until I actually sat down and looked at the picture. Something that seemed so obvious and somewhat of a flaw to me was suddenly overshadowed by the sheer blessing of finally having three healthy babies all to my own. I ended up leaving his marks and their scars in the picture, realizing that they were PERFECT just they were and that there was no need to "touchup" something that was already so beautiful.

Avery is GORGEOUS and a temporary mark can't change that...no matter what!

God created Avery's inmost being;
He knit her together in your womb.
I can praise God because Avery is fearfully and wonderfully made;
God's works are wonderful;
I know that full well. (Ps 139:13-14)

I look forward to seeing God's plans for this little one.

Love, Deb
